You only have two fears when you are Born

When you are first born your only fears were of falling and of loud noises. They are built into your DNA and have been passed down from generation to generation as a survival mechanism
Their sole purpose is to keep you alive, and create emotion that will motivate you to avoid danger.
Every other fear you face you have learned throughout your life.

Random Fact... Hmmm...

Duct tape has been used to repair helicopters!

Is there anything a little bit of Duct Tape can't fix? The silvery-gray tape has amassed a sterling reputation for being the most flexible repair material in the world.
The first iteration of the modern duct tape was invented in 1942 by Johnson & Johnson. It was originally used as a sealing tape for ammunition cases during World War II.
That's not the only military use. During the Vietnam War, duct tape was used to repair helicopter rotor blades. Soldiers also used duct tape to balance the rotor blades, even if they didn't need repair.

Random Fact of the day - Wednesday

A woman dropped her 2 year old son into a pit of African wild dogs. She sued the zoo for negligence!

In a tragic turn of events, a 2-year-old-boy named Maddox died when his mother dropped him into a pit of African Wild Dogs during his trip to the zoo with his parents.
Jason and Elizabeth Derkosh, perhaps because they were grieving and not thinking rationally, or because they refuse to accept the blame, are suing the zoo for negligence and not having a large enough barrier to prevent parents from holding their children up to better see the exhibit.
According to the legal argument presented by the Derkosh's says that the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium needs to have more obvious warnings of the dangers of holding your children up to see the exhibit, like so many other zoo's across the country!

Random Dog Fact

The oldest dog in history is still alive today and will turn 30 this year!

A terrier-cross in Louisiana called Max holds the record for being the world's oldest known living dog. Born in August 1983, Max has been a part of Janelle Derouen's family ever since.
Max has also enjoyed fine health into his older years. As of a few years ago, he only had mild arthritis and some cataracts. The owner says that he never spoiled the dog, and never even fed him any food from their table.
Using the rule of thumb for translating dog years into human years; in August, he will have lived for 210 human years. Here's to hoping he gets to live many more years.

In 1972, the band Deep Purple played so loud, 3 people fainted.

Deep Purple is an English rock group formed in 1968. During a 1972 concert at the London Rainbow Theatre, the band played so loud, their sound reached 117 decibels. That’s about how loud the noise an entire football stadium is. As a result of the noise, three people reportedly fell unconscious. Deep Purple's members have changed many times since its beginning, and now consists of Ian Paice, Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Steve Morse, and Don Airey.
The current record for decibels from a band is 139 dB, by Manowar. However, this was done during rehearsal and not the actual concert. The in-concert record goes to KISS, who reached 136dB in their concert. They were forced to turn the volume down

Random Fact

There’s a 21-foot, 50-year-old, 2370-lb crocodile in the Philippines.

A group of 100 hunters caught the giant croc, whose name is Lolong, last weekend. It was caught alive and there are plans to use it as a tourist attraction at an ecotourist park, though currently, wildlife officials say that Lolong has refused to eat in days.

The hunters were looking for the croc after a farmer was killed in a crocodile attack. Lolong is suspected of killing both the farmer and a girl who was killed in 2009. However, some villagers say that the killings may have been caused by a different, even bigger, crocodile that has been spotted. Inspections of Lolong’s stomach found no human remains.

There is a plant that eats rats!

There is a plant that eats rats!

Botanists have recently discovered a new rat-eating plant located in Southeast Asia.
The Nepenthes northiana is a carnivorous pitcher plant that eats small animals, mostly rats! It measures up to 20 centimeters in diameter and is formed by a tendril which inflated into a large cup-shaped trap.
This plant eats rats, and anything else it can catch. It grows a leaf out that shapes itself into an open tube and fills itself with acid much like the human stomach. Its colors confuse insects as well as some rodents into thinking it is food itself. The rat falls in, and digestion begin.
It is believed that there are around 600 species of pitcher plants. These plants are most familiar with the Venus flytrap. Even though they evolved so that they could catch insects, they still like to eat rats and mice every now and then.

Whale sharks are the biggest sharks, but they're completely harmless. They eat plankton.

Reaching lengths of 40 feet, whale sharks are both the largest sharks and the largest fish in the sea. Like many whales, the whale shark is a filter-feeder. It scoops up tiny plants and animals with its enormous mouth and filters out all the water from its gills.

They won't bite you (they have really tiny teeth!) In fact, they've been known to be so docile that swimmers can catch a ride on their backs!

Dark and White meat - Random Fact of the Day

What's the shameful origin of the terms white and dark meat?

The terms "white meat" and "dark meat" come from the Victorian era when people were too embarrassed to use the words "leg" and "breast"! Victorians were a bit uptight to say the least. There were many taboos and words that were rude to use. The words breast and leg were a bit of a taboo. So, to specify what part of the fowl they wanted to eat, such as chicken or turkey, they would say “dark meat” or “white meat.” To this day we use these terms, but in all actuality we are following the Victorian era faux pas.
The euphemisms used by the Victorian era people are still used and we don’t even realize why we use them. Today, they’ve just been integrated into the way we talk about meat and the parts of it. They no longer denote the leg or breast, but the color or part of meat we want to eat. The origins of the terms nonetheless are from the Victorian era people who were too embarrassed to say breast or leg in the presence of others.
