Google Random Fact
Google unsuccessfully tried to sell itself in 1999 for $1 million

Remember Excite.com? Neither do most people. However, they were big cats in the search engine business right before the year 2000. Back then, Google was not the behemoth it is nowadays; in fact, it was still a project from Stanford Graduate students who thought it was taking too much time that would be better spent studying.
Sergey Brin and Larry Page, the creators of Google then went to Excite and tried to sell him the search engine for $1 million. Apparently this was a laughable proposal for then CEO, George Bell. He not only rejected their offer, he also threw an Excite venture capitalists out of his office when he tried to negotiate them down to only $750,000! This has gone down in history as one of the dumbest business decisions ever.

Every year, about 6000 US patients have surgical tools left inside them!
The consequences of this are not pretty. Many patients suffer for months or years from pain, digestive problems, etc. Before anyone notices. But usually, by the time the doctor’s little mistake is picked up on, an infection has already formed. The complications from these infections can and often do last a lifetime. Some people lose parts of their intestines, others their lives.
Yet despite all this, thousands of hospitals and surgical centers have failed to adopt technologies that will eliminate the risk of leaving sponges in their patients.

There isn't any peanut butter in Reese's Pieces...
Manufactured by the Hershey Company, Reese’s Pieces peanut butter candy’s claim to fame is probably most notably it's appearance in the 1982 movie E.T. as the little ‘guy’s’ favorite candy. It followed Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and was designed to capitalize on it's forerunner’s success.
Originally the plan was to fill the candy with peanut butter, but the oil leaking into the shell made it soft instead of crunchy. The problem was outsourced to a team of scientists tasked to come up with a solution. They created a peanut-flavored penuche filling. Penuche is a fudge-like candy. It is made with brown sugar, butter and milk.
The next step was to figure out how thick the shell needed to be. The last step was to decide on the colors of the candy coating. It was designed to match the colors of the package and the goal distribution of candies in the packets is 50% orange, 25% brown and 25% yellow.
Although the candy was manufactured by the Hershey Company for the North American market, they are also available in Canada, Ireland and the United Kingdom. Do not get too excited if you suffer from nut allergies - Reese’s Pieces still contain partially defatted peanuts!
The Pieces product line now includes York Peppermint Pattie Pieces, Almond Joy Pieces and Hershey’s Special Dark Pieces.

No Fear
A woman cannot feel fear because of a missing structure in her brain.

This woman is incapable of feeling afraid, but says she does feel other emotions. The reason for this strange condition is that the woman is missing a portion of her brain called the amygdala, which has been shown to help with emotional learning. The woman says that she has been threatened with a knife and held at gunpoint but did not feel the least bit afraid in either situation. Researchers tested her by having her handle dangerous snakes and a tarantula at a pet store and attend scary movies - she was never frightened!
The drawback to this "ability" is that she is also unable to process danger around her and subsequently avoid it - in reality, she is quite lucky to be alive! Researchers hope that by studying this woman they may find a way to treat patients with posttraumatic stress disorder.
